Border Surrender live at the Birdcage

A few of us went to see The Border Surrender play at The Birdcage in Southsea on the 7th May. I’m not going to write a review but can honestly say they sound awesome live. Check out the photos on my Flickr site.

Here’s some info ripped from their MySpace website.

The Border Surrender are a four piece group based in North London.

They spent much of 2009 developing their writing skills and honing an original style that sets them apart from any other band around.

The bands influences are predominantly drawn from the US and Canada from the likes of Buffalo Springfield, The Band and Neil young to more contemporary artists like My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses.

Although their inspiration comes from far off shores they have still managed to produce a very home grown creation with a distinctly British flavour, inspired by the DIY ethic of recordings such as The Basement Tapes and Exile on Main Street, along with more recent releases from the likes of Bon Iver and the Fleet Foxes, The Border Surrender have opted to record in the self built basement studio of their North London home in order to create a more organic and endearing quality of sound.

Walk to Wagamama

I took a few snaps on the way down to Gunwharf Quays to eat at the new Wagamama restaurant on Tuesday. The food and service was great! In and out in just over 30 minutes ensured we were completely full and could barely walk.

Strong Island bank holiday bike ride

Good times all round this weekend. The Strong Island bike ride went well with over 200 people turning up. We met up at the Bridge Tavern for a few drinks before setting off on the 8 mile route. We even had a police escort! A few of us finished the day with a sprint back to Old Portsmouth, fish ‘n’ chips, then back to the Dog for the Strong Island after party.
